Some of the most widely predicted new technologies for business include Bitcoins, real-time mobile targeting, wearable technologies and virtual reality. Through a series of exhibitors, talks and workshops, the Scottish Design Summit offered the opportunity to learn more about these technologies and discuss how design has influenced such developments.  We also looked at how the adoption of design as a strategy can help integrate such technologies into industry, transforming consumer interaction and providing protection in the face of a rapidly-changing economic environment.

Speakers included

  • Sebastian Conran, author of ‘Think Design’ and DiA Chair

  • Roland Lamb, founder of ROLI

  • Jason Bruges, Jason Bruges Studios

With presentations and workshops from other companies including IBM, Giraffe Innovation and Frog Design and a ministerial address from Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Europe and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP.

There was also large exhibition space showcasing local businesses, funding agencies, recipients of the DiA Prize for Commercial Potential and other talents from the creative industries across Scotland, all of whom will contribute to the future of design and technology.

We were delighted to see so many people there! Here’s some testimonials from the day: –

‘It was a thought-provoking day with diverse talks. Got to meet lots of interesting people.’

‘I attended to explore how other businesses use design at the forefront of their products and services.’

‘As a first-time attendee, I found all the presentations great. It was also nice to meet some of the friendly faces involved in design!’
