Design in Action had a strong research focus, committed to developing our understanding of the knowledge exchange process in the design field and to co-creating new knowledge about the effectiveness of strategic design as a catalyst for innovation within business sector-specific contexts. More broadly we were interested in how design businesses as creative micro-enterprises, interact with and function within the wider Scottish economy and the development of related support policies and accessibility.
Our research outcomes also intended to lead to the enhancement of postgraduate training course content and teaching methodologies, the development of research and practice skills and future competencies in the design discipline.
We had an extensive research team, spanning DiA’s six partner academic institutions. Their investigations include the role of design in formulating new business ideas, knowledge co-production, new business model development and design methodologies.
Here you can find out about the research undertaken in each area.
