Professor Barbara Townley holds a £1.5 million, 5-year research grant from the Economic & Social Research Council (2008-2014) for industry-led research in the Creative Industries and supervises a large cohort of PhD students and Knowledge Transfer researchers on projects hosted by creative industry organisations. In addition to her work with Design in Action, she is Co-Investigator for the RCUK Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Cre-ative Economy (University of Glasgow), and for a European Union project, The Enterprise of Culture (University of Leeds). Barbara has worked at the universities of Lancaster, Warwick, Edinburgh and Alberta, Canada. She has published extensively in leading US and European management journals and her most recent book (co-authored) is Managing Creativity: Ex-ploring the Paradox (Cambridge University Press, 2010). Her research areas are cultural and creative industries, particularly the negotiation of commercial/business and ar-tistic/cultural/professional rationalities.
