A total of 36 Scottish businesses are celebrating after securing funding from the dragon’s den style Scottish EDGE competition.

The funding competition aimed at identifying Scotland’s top young, early stage and high growth potential entrepreneurs took place on Friday (12 June) at RBS Gogarburn.
The £5m+ fund endowed by serial entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter is led by a board of entrepreneurs, bankers and public sector supporters.
One of the major winners of the night was Carbon Black System Ltd, a company which provides customers with high-tech custom built stylish carbon fibre wheelchairs.
The Nairn-based firm secured £100,000 in funding courtesy of the Scotedge category and will also receive support and mentoring from a mature entrepreneur and access to a range of assistance via Business Gateway, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Eleanor Mitchell, director of High Growth Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, said: “The Scottish EDGE encourages and supports Scotland’s expanding base of entrepreneurial activity.
“Past winners have used the award to recruit new team members, fund their marketing activities, translate their ideas into products and expand their sales and they’re demonstrating strong growth.
“Providing companies with access to new sources of early stage growth finance is vital and the Scottish EDGE helps to fill this gap, complementing existing grants and investment products that support Scotland’s entrepreneurs to realise their ambitions and to build sustainable businesses.”
Other winners from the awards included Beer52, CLDB, Freedom One Life ltd, Geek Retreat and Shot Scope among others.
