Design in Action is delighted to share that two of our colleagues have been successful at this year’s Royal Society of Edinburgh Research Awards!
Colin Gray and Dr Tim Willis have both been awarded a prestigious Enterprise Fellowship. The Fellowships, of which there are only 12 awarded each year, are intended specifically to help postgraduate students turn the outcomes of their academic research into high growth businesses. They provide the recipients with a year’s salary, business practices teaching programme, mentorship and the opportunity to apply for further funding to acquire necessary equipment to benefit the fledgling business.
Colin, a DiA doctoral student who has recently completed his PhD at Abertay University, has received his award to help get his business ‘The Podcast Host‘ up and running and Tim was awarded to help commercialise his smartwatch innovative tech input system ‘Tusi’, which also won Chiasma funding, supported by the Intellectual Property Office via the University of Dundee’s Research & Innovation Services department, following our digital imaging Technology Accelerator Chiasma in January 2015.
Of the awards, President of the RSE, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, commented: – ‘I congratulate each of the innovative and inspiring awardees; their achievements finely illustrate the continuing superior work that typifies the RSE and Scotland’s research community.’
Well done Colin and Tim!
