Design in Action have established interactive innovation events, called Chiasma, to engage with business opportunities identified through the university research base. Industry, designers and academics will work together to build new thinking around complex problems (pre-identified by both industry and researchers). The generated Chiasma ideas will therefore be embedded into this context providing transformative market-ready solutions. IP generated from this process will be offered through a commercial agreement, initially to Chiasma participants, against a business plan for its commercialisation. Funding of up to £20,000 per project will be available to develop the solution into a near-to-market product.
Date: 25th and 26th June 2013
Location/Accommodation: Atholl Palace, Pitlochry, Perthshire, PH16 5LY
Cost: 2 days committed engagement (food / accommodation / travel costs covered)
Closing date for applications: 16.00, Monday 6th May 2013 (NOW CLOSED)
The aim of this Chiasma is to explore how design can play a role in providing innovation opportunities to rural businesses and communities. See the ‘Business Opportunity’ section of the Call for Participants/Terms of Engagement document for more details.
Successful applicants will form teams within Chiasma and will be expected to pitch their solutions to an expert panel to gain feedback.
Teams will therefore be constantly evolving their ideas and a final pitch will enable the resultant IP to be captured and considered for funding and development. Design in Action has allocated up to £20,000 and a range of support services to prototype ideas arising from the Chiasma process.
Aside from potential idea generation participants will be exposed to innovative design methodology that can be an asset for continuous professional development. Participants will also have valuable networking/relationship-building opportunities with fellow Chiasma attendees out-with their specific field. Please feel free to email the Design in Action team with any enquiries regarding this Chiasma event.
